1.

bhaja bhakata-vatsala śrī-gaurahari
śrī-gaurahari sohi goṣṭha-vihārī
nanda-yaśomatī-citta-hari
(bhaja govinda govinda gopāla)

Synonyms 

bhaja – worship; bhakata-vatsala – one who is affectionate to His devotees; śrī-gaurahari – Lord Gaurahari (Caitanya Mahāprabhu); sohi – He is the same (as Kṛṣṇa); goṣṭha-vihārī – the cowherd who roams in Vṛndāvana; nanda-yaśomatī-citta-hari – who steals the hearts of Nanda and Yaśomatī; (bhaja govinda govinda gopāla) – worship Govinda, the cowherd boy

Translation

Worship Śrī Gaurahari, the Lord who is affectionate to His devotees. He is the same cowherd boy, Kṛṣṇa, who charms the hearts of Nanda and Yaśodā.

2.

belā ha’lo dāmodara āisa ekhano
bhoga-maṇḍire bosi’ karaha bhojana

Synonyms 

belā ha’lo – the time has come; dāmodara – O Dāmodara (bound Kṛṣṇa); āisa ekhano – please come now; bhoga-maṇḍire – to the place of offering; bosi’ – sit down; karaha bhojana – and take your meal

Translation

O Dāmodara, it’s time! Please come now to the dining room, sit down, and begin Your meal.

nandera nideśe vaise girivara-dhārī
baladeva-saha sakhā vaise sāri-sāri

Synonyms 

nandera nideśe – by the order of Nanda Mahārāja; vaise – sits; girivara-dhārī – the lifter of Govardhana Hill (Kṛṣṇa); baladeva-saha – with Baladeva (Balarāma); sakhā – friends; vaise sāri-sāri – sit in rows; 

Translation

At Nanda Mahārāja’s instruction, Kṛṣṇa, the lifter of Govardhana, sits with Baladeva and the cowherd boys in neat rows.

4.

śuktā-śākādi bhāji nālitā kuṣmāṇḍa
dāli dālnā dugdha-tumbī dadhi mocā-khaṇḍa

Synonyms 

śuktā-śākādi – bitter and leafy vegetables; bhāji – fried preparations; nālitā – jute-leaf salad; kuṣmāṇḍa – pumpkin; dāli – plain dal; dālnā – spiced dal; dugdha-tumbī – milk-cooked gourd; dadhi – yogurt; mocā-khaṇḍa – banana flower preparations

Translation

There are bitter and leafy greens, fried vegetables, jute-leaf salad, pumpkin, dal, spiced dal, milk-prepared gourds, yogurt, and banana flower dishes.

5.

mudga-borā māṣa-borā roṭikā ghṛtānna
śaṣkulī piṣṭaka khīra puli pāyasānna

Synonyms 

mudga-borā – mung dal fritters; māṣa-borā – urad dal fritters; roṭikā – flatbreads; ghṛtānna – ghee rice; śaṣkulī – sesame-milk sweets; piṣṭaka – rice cakes; khīra – sweet rice pudding; puli – stuffed rice sweets; pāyasānna – milk and rice dessert

Translation


There are fritters of mung and urad dal, flatbreads, rice cooked with ghee, sesame sweets, rice cakes, sweet rice pudding, puli, and pāyas.

6.

karpūra amṛta-keli rambhā khīra-sāra
amṛta-rasālā, amla dvādaśa prakāra

Synonyms 

karpūra – camphor; amṛta-keli – nectar-like dishes; rambhā khīra-sāra – banana-sweet cream dish; amṛta-rasālā – nectar juices; amla dvādaśa prakāra – twelve sour dishes

Translation

There are nectar-like dishes scented with camphor, sweet banana puddings, nectar drinks, and twelve varieties of tangy preparations.

lucī chini sarpurī lāḍḍu rasābalī
bhojana korena kṛṣṇa ha’ye kutūhalī

Synonyms 

lucī – puffed bread; chini – sugar sweets; sarpurī – condensed milk sweets; lāḍḍu – laddus; rasābalī – syrupy milk sweets; bhojana korena – eats; kṛṣṇa – Kṛṣṇa; ha’ye kutūhalī – being curious

Translation

Kṛṣṇa eats puffed breads, sugar confections, milk sweets, laddus, and rasābalī with great interest and joy.

8.

rādhikāra pakka anna vividha vyañjana
paramānande kṛṣṇa korena bhojana

Synonyms 

rādhikāra pakka anna – rice cooked by Rādhikā; vividha vyañjana – various side dishes; paramānande – with supreme bliss; kṛṣṇa korena bhojana – Kṛṣṇa eats

Translation

Kṛṣṇa blissfully eats the rice and many delicious preparations cooked personally by Rādhikā.

9.

chale-bale lāḍḍu khāya śrī-madhumaṅgala
bagala bājāya āra deya hari-bola

Synonyms 

chale-bale – by clever tricks; lāḍḍu khāya – eats laddus; śrī-madhumaṅgala – Śrī Madhumaṅgala; bagala bājāya – claps his arms; āra deya hari-bola – and loudly chants “Hari Bol!”; 

Translation

 Śrī Madhumaṅgala, with mischief, eats many laddus, claps joyfully, and shouts, “Hari Bol!”

10.

rādhikādi-gaṇe heri’ nayanera koṇe
tṛpta ha’ye khāya kṛṣṇa yaśodā-bhavane

Synonyms 

rādhikādi-gaṇe – Rādhikā and her companions; heri’ – seeing; nayanera koṇe – from the corner of His eyes; tṛpta ha’ye – being satisfied; khāya – eats; kṛṣṇa – Kṛṣṇa; yaśodā-bhavane – in Yaśodā’s house

Translation

Watching Rādhikā and Her sakhīs from the corner of His eyes, Kṛṣṇa eats contentedly in Mother Yaśodā’s house.

11.

bhojanānte piye kṛṣṇa subhāsita bārī
sabe mukha prakṣālaya ha’ye sāri-sāri

Synonyms 

bhojanānte – after eating; piye kṛṣṇa – Kṛṣṇa drinks; subhāsita bārī – fragrant water; sabe mukha prakṣālaya – everyone washes their mouths; ha’ye sāri-sāri – sitting in neat rows

Translation

After His meal, Kṛṣṇa drinks perfumed water. All the boys wash their mouths while remaining seated in rows.

12.

hasta-mukha prakṣāliya jata sakhā-gaṇe
ānande viśrāma kore baladeva-sane

Synonyms 

hasta-mukha prakṣāliya – washing hands and mouth; jata sakhā-gaṇe – all His friends; ānande – joyfully; viśrāma kore – take rest; baladeva-sane – with Baladeva

Translation

After washing their hands and mouths, all of Kṛṣṇa’s friends joyfully rest along with Baladeva.

13.

jāmbula rasāla āne tāmbūla-masālā
tāhā kheye kṛṣṇa-candra sukhe nidrā gelā

Synonyms 

jāmbula rasāla – jamun fruit nectar; āne – brings; tāmbūla-masālā – betel leaf with spices; tāhā kheye – eating that; kṛṣṇa-candra – moon-like Kṛṣṇa; sukhe nidrā gelā – peacefully goes to sleep; 

Translation

After enjoying jamun nectar and spiced betel, moon-like Kṛṣṇa peacefully falls asleep.

14.

viśālākṣa śikhi-puccha-cāmara ḍhulāya
apūrva śayyāya kṛṣṇa sukhe nidrā yāya

Synonyms 

viśālākṣa – big-eyed attendants; śikhi-puccha-cāmara ḍhulāya – fan with peacock-feather whisks; apūrva śayyāya – on a wonderful bed; kṛṣṇa sukhe nidrā yāya – Kṛṣṇa sleeps happily

Translation

While Krsna happily takes His rest on an excellent bedstead, His servant Visalaksa cools Him with a fan of peacock feathers.

15.

yaśomatī-ājñā pe’ye dhaniṣṭhā-ānīta
śrī-kṛṣṇa-prasāda rādhā bhuñje ha’ye prīta

Synonyms 

yaśomatī-ājñā pe’ye – receiving Yaśodā’s instruction; dhaniṣṭhā-ānīta – brought by Dhaniṣṭhā; śrī-kṛṣṇa-prasāda – Kṛṣṇa’s remnants; rādhā bhuñje – Rādhā eats; ha’ye prīta – feeling joy

Translation

Obeying Yaśodā’s order, Dhaniṣṭhā brings remnants of food left on Krsna’s plate to Srimati Radharani, who eats them with great delight.

16.

lalitādi sakhī-gaṇa avaśeṣa pāya
mane-mane sukhe rādhā-kṛṣṇa-guṇa gāya

Synonyms 

lalitādi sakhī-gaṇa – Lalitā and the other sakhīs; avaśeṣa pāya – receive the leftovers; mane-mane – in their minds; sukhe – with joy; rādhā-kṛṣṇa-guṇa gāya – sing the glories of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa

Translation

Lalitā and the other sakhīs the receive the remnants and joyfully glorify Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa in their hearts.

17.

hari-līlā eka-mātra yāhāra pramoda
bhogārati gāya Ṭhākura Bhaktivinoda

Synonyms 

hari-līlā – pastimes of the Lord; eka-mātra pramoda – sole joy and delight; yāhāra – of whom; bhogārati gāya – sings during the bhoga-ārati; Ṭhākura Bhaktivinoda – Ṭhākura Bhaktivinoda

Translation

For Ṭhākura Bhaktivinoda, whose only joy is in the pastimes of Lord Hari, sings this bhoga-ārati.
